Crazy Book Buying Obsession Tag

I was tagged for this blog post by Megz Madd Readz and found it really interesting so I decided to put my answers here as well.
  1. Do you have an obsession with buying books? First step is admitting the problem right? I do have an obsession with buying books, and I'm not even sorry.
  2. When, where and how often do you buy your books? I usually buy them online because our bookstores rarely have what I want, and online stores are also way cheaper for my empty student's bank account. Now that I have a Kindle Amazon is my best friend. I also trade books with others. Do you go with anyone else or just by yourself? I mostly do it all by myself because nobody understands my book buying needs.
  3. What kind of things attract you to books when browsing them? Often it's a cover. I don't look twice at books with bad covers. I know it's bad and not how it's supposed to go but I just can't help myself. Other times I go for a synopsis, but rarely. Most often it's because the book was recommended to me. I haven't read in a awhile and so I missed on many great reads people have been pressuring me into reading. So it's not that hard to find a new read for me.  Is there a specific genre of books you immediately go and look at? I love fantasy in any form, high fantasy being my favorite. Paranormal books are also great but lately I have been in love with dystopia.
  4. Do you prefer to buy new, used or a mixture of both? I prefer new books but if they have been owned before and look decent, I don't mind. I did have a few nasty encounters with library books so now I'm a bit careful when picking one from a library. I may take good care of books but the majority of people do not.
  5. How much are you willing to spend on books each month? I used to have a 20 € per month policy but then I started pilling books and never reading them so I stopped in October 2012. Now I actually lost count because I get books from others as well. I'd say still no more than 20. I still have to eat!
  6. Have you ever gone on any 'book-buying bans'? I did, I think I went 2 whole months without buying anything (for myself, got some from others), but it was harsh and then when I got Christmas money I bought so many books it got even. So it was pointless and I won't try it again.
  7. How long does it take you to get around to reading recently bought books? Sometimes I don't pick them up for years, sometimes I pick them up instantly. I bought three Snyder books in 2010 and they're still unopened. I got them because of the pretty covers. Last year I bought Divergent and Insurgent and read them both the second I got them in the mail. It depends on a book, how long have I been waiting for it, how popular it is, which # in the series it is...
  8. Do you prefer to buy a lot of shorter, cheaper books or just a few longer, more expensive ones? Depends. I buy books because I know I will like them and then it doesn't matter how thick it is or how expensive. I do go for paperbacks because they're cheaper but I still buy fat ones (Inheritance Cycle series, A Song of Ice and Fire series ...). The only hardbacks I own are my absolute favorites (except for ASoIaF) - Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent series, The Casual Vacancy. I'd buy anything from JKR to be honest no matter the price. So it depends on a book but I don't differentiate on thickness or price. If I like it I'll get it as long as it's in the budget limit for the month, if it's over it I will try and not buy anything next month.
  9. Anything else to say about these awesome obsessions? Just that I'm not sorry that I 'suffer' from them. I buy many books, yes, but compared to the fact that I could be buying drugs, cigarettes, drink, clothes I don't need ... I buy something more valuable and actually healthy. You may say I don't need this many books but I'll tell you this: YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS. You can never read too many books. NEVER.
  10. Who are you tagging? I'm tagging Judith @ Paper Riot and Petra @ Hazel the Witch.

  2. What?! Why did you tag me? I don't have a book buying obsession. Probably. Well, maybe a little. OKAY FINE! Anyway. I think two whole months is a pretty damn long time to go without buying books! I don't think I could last that long... And I know all about book buying needs. I buy my books by myself, because everyone gets bored when I take them. I'll probably do this soon, when I have some time left in between scheduled posts :)
